Guests can catch this flight with connections from Jakarta or Manado. If you are not able to use the Wednesday flights, we also offer an overland transfer from Ternate (TTE) airport to Metita Island.
The process looks like this:

  • Pick up at the airport and transfer to the harbour (30 minutes).
  • Speedboat to Sofifi (30 minutes).
  • Car from Sofifi to Tobelo (3-3.5hours).
  • Speedboat from Tobelo to Metita Island (1 hour).
It is important to notice, that the last speedboat from Tobelo to Metita must leave before 17:30.
In order to make it in one day, without an additional night in Ternate or Tobelo, you should arrive in Ternate early in the morning with the 07:20 or 08:20 flights from Manado or Jakarta.
Do I need a visa to travel to Indonesia?
Citizens of most countries outside of ASEAN must have a passport with at least six months validity, a Visa on Arrival (or e-Visa) costing IDR 500,000 and valid for a maximum of 30 days, with the possibility to extend for another 30 days. They must also have a return or onward ticket showing departure from Indonesia.
What form of payment do you accept for extras during my stay?
We don’t currently accept credit card payments, so you will need to bring cash with you to the resort. Payments can be made in EURO, US$ or Indonesian Rupiah. If paying in US$, please ensure your bills are from after 2013. Foreign currency bills must be in mint condition without fold or ink stains.
What should I bring?
  • Dive Certificate and Log book
  • Proof of dive insurance covering emergency evacuation – due to our remote location, all diving guests are required to present dive insurance. We recommend “Divers Alert Network” and are able to arrange short-term coverage through DAN for guests if necessary.
  • A raincoat or poncho if desired
  • A light sweater – the evenings and early morning boat excursions can be chilly
  • All personal toiletries and medications that you will need for the duration of your stay- there are no shops or pharmacies on the island
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses & hat
  • All dive gear: mask, fins, regulator, BCD, wetsuit, dive computer (mandatory). An underwater flashlight is also recommended. Please advise us in advance if you wish to rent any equipment during your stay.
  • Sturdy (water/mud proof) shoes if you wish to do any jungle hike or bird watching excursions around the islands; some of the stunning forest trails pass through shallow streams and muddy patches
  • A small waterproof bag – these are an excellent safety precaution if you wish to take cameras, extra clothing or any other non-waterproof items with you on the boats. We sell waterproof bags in the resort if you don’t have one to bring.
  • Binoculars to view bird life both around the resort and on excursions.
What should I not bring?
  • Excessive plastic packaging – please pack items carefully and remove excess packaging to minimise any rubbish you bring to the island.
  • Non-rechargeable batteries – it is almost impossible to recycle batteries in Indonesia; whenever possible, please choose rechargeable.
  • Soap, shampoo and other personal items that contain excessive perfumes or are “antibacterial.” All these products contain harmful agents that will have adverse effects on our little island paradise. We offer complimentary natural shampoo, shower gel, and hand soap in all our rooms.
Can I go snorkelling at Metita Resort?
Yes, absolutely! Right outside our door, a 90m reef plateau offers excellent snorkelling. The corals are particularly beautiful at the drop-off, where the reef slowly descends into the depths. Bumphead parrotfish, sea turtles, Napoleon fish, and blacktip reef sharks are often spotted here.
What if I want to get dive certified or do a dive course?
We currently offer SSI courses, from Bubblemaker to Assistant Instructor, in English and German.
What kind of boats do you have?
We have 2 fibreglass speedboats for divers and snorkelers at the moment. One boat is 14m long and the second boat is 10 meters long, and both are 3 meters wide. They have both toilets on board and a large, shaded area and a sun deck.
What is there to do if I don’t dive?
Morotai Island, just a 20-minute boat ride away from Metita, offers hiking and nature opportunities. Raja Waterfall with almost 80m from basin to top edge is incredible to visit and large caves can be explored. Morotai also offers historical WWII sites, spice growers and silver jewellery makers.
Day trips to mainland Halmahera to climb one of the world’s most active volcanoes, the Dukono, is also an option. This climb is only available when it is safe to do so.
When is the best time to visit?
Morotai Island has 2 seasons, rainy and dry, with the rains coming between November and March. There are also stronger winds during this time which means better surfing conditions with peak season in December and January. Dry season offers better diving conditions with calm waters and 99% sunny weather from March till November.
What if I get sick or need emergency medical care?
It is mandatory for all divers to have insurance that covers emergency evacuation and decompression chamber treatment. There is a fairly new clinic in Morotai, with doctors who specialise in different fields and that speak all English. Non life threatening and minor issues can be dealt with there, e.g. Flu, outer ear infection.
Decompression chamber treatments would have to be done either in Manado or in Darwin, wherever the insurance of that particular diver requests the client to be evacuated to. Morotai has an airport, so that the insurance can send and aircraft for evacuation.

The Metita Resort staff will do everything possible to ensure your stay is enjoyable and memorable.
We understand that the little touches matter.
